A project by students of Ignatianum University in Kraków

Good starts with an ordinary bottle.

A bottle-return machine at Ignatianum University in Kraków. Return your bottle and donate the deposit to support Ignatianum students and their initiatives.

Plastikowa butelka z etykietą „Kaucja 0,50 zł”

Three moves. One bottle.

  1. Drop

Return a deposit-system bottle at the machine by the car park exit.

  2. Donate

You choose what to do with the deposit: take it on a card or donate it — all of it or as much as you like.

  3. Return

Come back again. Every bottle counts, and a small gesture repeated every week makes the biggest difference.

In the heart of Kraków, close to people.

The machine stands in central Kraków, near the Old Town and the Main Railway Station. One gesture on the way: to class, to work, to the basilica, to the train or from the car park.

  • Ignatianum students and staff

On your way to class. Your bottle comes back to you as support for students.

  • Worshippers at the Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus

Right next to the basilica. A small, shared gesture for the community.

  • Drivers and residents of Wesoła

Leaving the car park in the city centre? Stop for a minute.

  • Tourists and passers-by

Coming from the station or the Old Town? A bottle from your journey counts too.

Your deposit supports students.

50 groszy is a trifle. But when there are hundreds and thousands of bottles, small change turns into real support for students.

Calculated for a PLN 0.50 deposit donated in full. You decide how much to give.

Where the money goes.

Donations go to Fundacja Ignatianum and are used to support Ignatianum University students and their initiatives.

The Foundation publishes on its website what the funds were spent on. You give as much as you decide and can check where it went.

There are not two separate crises, one environmental and one social. There is one.

The project draws on the integral ecology described by Pope Francis in the encyclical Laudato Si’. Odpowiedź musi łączyć troskę o przyrodę z troską o człowieka.

A bottle we would have thrown away goes back into circulation and becomes support for students. Recycling is the means; community is the goal.

The idea was born in a social communication class at Ignatianum University as a response to the new deposit return system.
